Many of our patients fear dental treatments or have anxiety about seeing the dentist. This is a common concern. We want our patients to know that there are solutions available to relieve your dental fears and anxiety. To alleviate these concerns, we offer sedation dentistry to our patients.

Sedation dentistry options include Oral sedation, Nitrous oxide, and IV sedation for adults and children.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is taken by mouth in usually pill or liquid form. For some patients this is an option if you have a fear of needles. You may take oral sedation the night before as well as the morning of your appointment if you need something to relax and calm your nerves. We can prescribe this prior to your appointment and help ease your anxiety. Some patients feel very relaxed and may even fall asleep.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas. This is a mild sedative administered through a nose hood throughout the procedure. It elevates your mood, relieves anxiety and reduces pain. This is a safe procedure with minimal side effects.

IV Sedation

IV sedation provides a more relaxing and less anxious environment. You are closely monitored throughout the procedure by a Registered Nurse, and they will be administering medication through an intravenous into your bloodstream, which begins to work immediately. The medication often results in people having no memory of the procedure.

Sedation Options for Children

Children may feel nervous or afraid when visiting the dentist. We have options for you if it is difficult for you to brush and care for your child’s teeth. Your child’s baby teeth can affect their adult teeth and how they develop. Dental infection and pain can affect your child’s overall health and nutritional intake. We offer sedation options for those children with anxiety who are unable to receive treatment in the dental chair for fillings, cleanings, extractions, and x-rays while awake.
